Umpire sessions to commence today
Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) National Hockey Coach Anthony Marcano began a five-day
Course for local personnel interested in becoming coaches, at the Georgetown Cricket Club Pavilion.
The Course is expected to coincide with the staging of this year’s Diamond Mineral Water Festival and according to President of the Guyana Hockey Board Phillip Fernandes in addition to the Coaching aspect; the Board has also secured the services of an Elite Umpire to conduct classes for aspiring and current umpires, courtesy of the Pan American Federation.
US Umpire Constantine ‘Gus’ Soteriades was expected in late last night and he along with Marcano will conduct both theoretical and practical sessions with the participants, at the GCC Pavilion and the National Gymnasium.
Fernandes said Marcano and Soteriades will provide match examination of the coaches, umpires and players, during the games. According to him, it is all aimed at improving the skills and competence of our local players, umpires and coaches which could then instigate the general development of the sport here.
