Four serial bandits will be off the road for the holidays after they were surprised and caught by the police while breaking into a business place in Cumberland Canje.
The men who were suspects in a number of misdemeanors in the Canje area ran out of luck when they were arrested. A number of items lost during earlier breakages were later found at the homes of the bandits.
The men Khemraj Panday, 20, of Victoria Street, Cumberland; Doodnauth Bissondyal, 23, of Princess Street, Cumberland; Takurdyal Bissondyal, 20, also of Princess Street; and Parvis Etwaroo, 20, of Lot 31 Section C, Cumberland.
They are accused of breaking into the business place of Uma Singh and stealing one pair of white sneakers on November 23, at West Canefield.
They are also accused of between November 7 and November 8, breaking into the Grocery Store of Yasodra Singh and stole a quantity of items including 22 cartons of cigarettes, biscuits, phone cards, and PVC Fittings.
They are also accused of between November 15 and 16, at West Canefield, breaking into the business place of Totaram Singh and stealing one Dell flat screen monitor, one digital camera, three cases of Ivanoff Vodka, one case R1 Vodka, one case five-year-old rum, three bottles wine, 40 packets of coil and $10,000.
Takurdyal Bissondyal who was caught on November 23, with a nipper in his hand, a padlock and knife in his pocket and a bag on his back is further charged with being in possession of house breaking implements.
They appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Reliance Magistrate’s court on Friday and were remanded to prison until January 7, 2015.
According to reports on November 23, the police at Reliance were out patrolling around 02:30 hrs when they received a call from a resident that someone was breaking into the lower flat of her house.
The police who were some three miles responded promptly. The cops parked the vehicle a distance away and surrounded the house.
The men who were in the process of breaking into the house had used a nipper to cut the padlock when they were surprised by the police. They made a dash for it, some scaling fences. Takurdyal Bissondyal ran into the police who were at the back of the yard. Not wanting to take the rap alone he immediately gave the names of his thieving buddies. The police swooped down on their premises and arrested the men who had scampered home.
The other items which were reported stolen earlier were found at the men’s homes when they were captured.
The bandits are all known to the authorities. The Bissondyal brothers have a number of matters of similar nature pending in the Magistrate’s court. They were out on bail when they committed the latest acts.
