The Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) held its Annual Stakeholders’ Reception on Sunday at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) tarmac on the Corentyne. The event took a more informal turn this year with less emphasis being placed on long speeches and formalities. Stakeholders turned up in large numbers on the University Square and were seated at dining tables where they were entertained by singers from Georgetown.
Christmas, soca and other music filled the atmosphere as DDL Chairman, Mr. Komal Samaroo, met with and interacted with shareholders of the company.
“We want to hear from you; we don’t only want to talk to you but hear from you, suggestions and feedback as to how we can do things better and make the company stronger,” Samaroo said.
At the ceremony, the DDL Chairman presented a ‘Twenty- Year Award’ for dedicated and committed service to the company to Mrs. Margaret Bhulai of the New Amsterdam DDL Office.
Samaroo said all of the company’s divisions are poised for growth. The non- alcoholic beverage division benefitted from the recent launch of the Tropics Fruit Drinks, “and we are the local franchise holders and are very, very pleased at the successes in the initial months.”
At the event, shareholders were given samples of the new Special Edition Coffee flavour of Cream Liqueur, deliberately introduced for Christmas.
“This is a really beautiful product and it is perfect for your Christmas dinner and it now complements the Chocolate flavoured liqueur.”
Samaroo noted, too, that DDL’s soft- drink brands like Pepsi, 7-UP and Soca are also doing very well. The division also produces the Topco Quenchers and Diamond Mineral Water, resulting in them maxing out production, working three shifts, six days per week.
Speaking about the issue of recycling, DLL has a contract with a private operator that collects all the company’s plastic bottles and re- exports them to the recycling companies overseas. The local glass bottles are also recycled. The company, he added, also produces methane gas from recycling its chemicals. He expressed his pleasure that the company’s operations have become extremely environmentally- friendly.
“We offer you excellent quality products that meet the highest standards… we give you products that are wholesome and we will continue to offer you more and more products and we ask that you give us your support.”
The company, he stated, meets the ISO- Certifications and operations and productions are audited twice per year.
Each shareholder also received a bottle of Vodka.
