Sixty-two-year-old Fatimah Jamal, who was struck by a truck on the East Bank Demerara public road Friday, succumbed to her injuries yesterday.
Mrs. Jamal, of Lot 101 Ceasar Street, Agricola, was walking on a pedestrian crossing near Agricola at around 07.15 hrs when the vehicle struck her.
Reports indicated that the woman had just finished her janitorial duties at the Alpha Hotel (opposite Agricola Primary School) and was crossing the road to get home.
According to her daughter, Amani Jamal, her mother was hit by a speeding truck whose driver appeared to have lost control. The janitor was rushed to the GPHC by public spirited citizens.
The matter was reported at the Ruimveldt Police Station and the driver of the truck is in police custody assisting with investigations.
