When Richard Williamson and Dilan Allicock step into the ring on Saturday December 13 they
will be battling over 12 rounds but only one of them will win the super/bantamweight title of Guyana. However, both will receive lucrative purses and yesterday afternoon, the proprietor of Luxury Flats and Apartment, Fifth Street Alberttown, agreed to pay the purses of these two boxers in what the promoter Mark Thom, described as a magnanimous gesture.
Mr. Thom was at the business place where a representative, Wayne Christiani, confirmed the decision of his bosses before handing over the requisite cheque. He said that his firm is extremely delighted to support the card which was merely giving back to a society that has similarly supported the business.
Mr. Thom was extremely delighted and relayed those sentiments to his benefactor. He admitted that the acquisition of corporate support has been extremely challenging yet he persevered since Berbicians are thirsting for good boxing cards. He assured Mr. Christiani that the benevolent gesture would go a far way in offsetting the expense associated with the promotion.
Castle Hotel of New Amsterdam has also sponsored a part of the card and Mr. Thom is beseeching the intervention of other business enterprises. He can be reached at tel # 698-6174. Admission is $2000 for the VIP section while general admission is $1000.
