The Flying Aces Cycle Club of Berbice is set to stage its final event for the year, the sixth

edition of the annual Phillip Arokium Memorial 60-mile cycle road race which is open to cyclists throughout Guyana on Sunday.
Sponsored by the Arokium family, the event will pedal off from the Arokium Funeral Home at Philadelphia Street, New Amsterdam at 09:00hrs, proceed to Number 43 Village Corentyne then back to Main and Alexander Streets, New Amsterdam for the finish.
The race was recently unveiled at the entity’s Philadelphia Street facility where the sponsorship deal was sealed. Secretary of Arokium Funeral Home, Natasha Dey, did the honours on behalf of the sponsors.
Miss Dey stated that the Funeral home was pleased to be associated with the cycling event in honour of the late founder and former club member, Phillip Arokium. Accepting the sponsorship on behalf of the FACC was coach and organiser Randolph Roberts who expressed his thanks to the sponsor for their continued support to the club and cycling in general.
All of the top cyclists in the country are expected to compete for the lucrative prizes at stake. The first eight cyclists to cross the finish line will receive cash. The first three juniors, first four females along with the first four riders to cross the finish line from the Flying Ace Cycle club (FACC) will also be rewarded. Eight sprint prizes will be up for the taking.
