Dear Editor,
It is almost three years since the results of the General and Regional Election show that the will of the people prefer a new dispensation.
When the Councillors for the Regional Democratic Council were introduced to my community, I had great expectations because my relatively small community now had three Councillors, one from each of the political parties that contested the election.
After listening to the newly elected Regional Chairman Sharma Soloman, it was most residents’ expectation that the three councillors would have continued the pattern set by the Chairman to consult with the community before going to statutory meetings and that the Regional Vice Chairman would occupy Sub Region Office located in Kwakwani.
It was also expected that there would have been a structured approach to development within our community. Residents would have been involved in executing these.
For three consecutive years, monies are spent to re-arrange and rehabilitate the Sub Regional Office so that the Vice Chairman can be accommodated but sub region is still without the presence of that official.
The current drainage projects being executed are designed to created rather than solve flooding and erosion problems. The monies spent to do three incomplete drains could have been better spent doing one to completion. The incomplete drain close to the students’ hostel that is controlled by the RDC is now a breeding ground for mosquitoes and the cause of flooding in neighbouring yards when it rains.
Three years is much too long for the Sub Region Office to be unoccupied by an elected representative of the People. If the Regional Vice Chairman cannot be there, the Regional Chairman and Councillors must designate another Councillor who is willing to be in the Sub Region and is prepared to be of service to the residents.
