Lusignan Sports Club presents its RAM SLAM T20 cricket on Sunday from 9:00am at the Lusignan Community Centre ground (LCCG).
The event will feature four neighbourhood villages; Mon Repos, Goed Hope, Lusignan and Annandale and is being held in an effort to rekindle the competitive spirit and rivalry among these villages and at the same time renew the interest of the game and community spirit.
The club which has wide membership stretching across the four communities expects this event to be an entertaining family affair with side attractions of games for the kids, lots of food, drinks, and music.
The matches will feature players who have made the villages proud within recent years and include several high profile players the likes of Imran Khan, Krishna Deosaran and Brian Sattaur all of whom have played in select West Indian teams.
Other players include Somdat Bharrat, Rajindra Naikbaran, Kumar Bishundial, Vishnu Ramjeet and Steven Ramdass. Admission is free and all are invited to attend.
The further development of the game in the targeted communities to keep young people away from some of society’s ills including illegal drugs, HIV/AIDS and suicide are also part of the aims of the competition.
Monies raised will be used to fund participation of the club in the various competitions run by the East Coast Cricket Board, Demerara Cricket Board and the Guyana Cricket Board at the Under 15, 17 and 19 levels as well as Inter-Association, Senior Demerara and National competitions.
The Club has won every competition on the East Coast of Demerara over the past 25 years, at both the senior and junior levels and has been the runner-up in National Club competitions on several occasions.
