Led by outstanding performances from Richard Latiff and Shafeek Ishmile, Muslim Youth Organisation defeated
Diplomats by 145 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-over competition continued on Sunday last.
At Malteenoes SC, MYO batted first and posted 273-5 in 40 overs. Latiff struck 80, while Chabiraj Ramcharran made 32, Narendra Persaud 29 and Ishmile 23. Diplomats were bowled out for 128 in 22.4 overs in reply with Damien Whitney scoring 64. Ishmile grabbed 4-7, Latiff 3-20 and Parsram Parmanand 2-14.
At GCC Bourda, the host overcame Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by 101 runs. GCC rattled up 224-8 in 40 overs, batting first. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed slammed 72 not out, Martin Pestano Belle 43, Khemraj Jaikarran 20 and Devon Lord 19. GDF were sent packing for 123 in 31 overs in response. Jeremiah Harris made 34 and Randy Lindore 24; Stephon Charles snared three wickets.
At University of Guyana ground, Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) trounced Sophia by eight wickets. Sophia, who surprisingly left out all-rounder Dwayne Allicock from their final 11, took first strike and were skittled for 86 in 22 overs. Shiv Parmanand and Mark Hamilton picked up two wickets each. GYO responded with 87-2 in 13 overs. Abdool Rahim and Chris Deonarine cracked 28 each.
On Saturday, TSC humbled host GNIC by five wickets. GNIC managed 197 all out in 39.4 overs, taking first strike. Ryan Shun stroked 97 (17×4), Quincy Ovid Richardson made 34 and Joshua Persaud 23. Kevin Ross picked up 3-26, Shawn Massiah 3-30 and Oslyn Batson 2-35. Charwayne McPherson then slammed 118 (21×4, 2×6) and got support from Ryan Hemraj 38 as TSC responded with 199-5 in 26.4 overs. Orlando Kirton took 3-44.
At MSC, University of Guyana (UG) beat the host by nine wickets.
MSC batted first and were restricted to 82-9, innings closed. Kefa Naughton scored 25; Lloyd George and Michael Shallim
claimed two wickets each,l while Ryan Mc Cal had two. UG galloped to 84-1 in 10 overs with N. Carryl hitting 42 not out.
At UG, MYO overcame Sophia by 211 runs. MYO piled up 335-6 in 40 overs, taking first turn at the crease. Latiff led with 81, Abdul Kumar scored 75, Ibrahim Wazidally 66 and Ramcharran 49. Sophia were bowled out for 124 in 21 overs in reply. Imtiaz Pooran snared 3-9, K. Seyhodan 3-10 and Raj Lall 3-21. (Zaheer Mohamed)
