Bandits seem to have taken a liking to the Popeye’s franchise on Vlissengen Road—-even if they’re leaving with cash instead of chicken, shrimp and hot Cajun fries.
The fast food outlet has been hit by a spate of robberies since it opened its doors, and bandits paid yet another visit there at around 20.00 hrs on Monday.
It is unclear how much money was taken, but a worker told Kaieteur News he was standing by the front door when a man exited. He said that the ‘customer’ was heading towards Vlissengen Road when a magazine from a handgun fell.
The worker said that he assumed that the ‘customer’ was a policeman, but then the man picked up the magazine and fled. He later learned that the franchise had been robbed.
On September 13, last, two armed men, reportedly with kerchiefs over their faces, escaped with over $1M in cash after they held up the supervisor, 27-year-old Mahendra Persaud.
Prior to that, on February 29, 2012 two men, reportedly armed with a shotgun, escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash after holding up employees at the same fast food branch.
And on February 14, 2010, two armed men entered the same outlet via the back door. They then grabbed two female supervisors and forced them to hand over $1.2M.
