DEAR EDITOR,
There is no doubt that the proroguing of Parliament by the PPP coupled with the dead threats to the owner of Kaieteur News Glenn Lall and his staff and the vulgar and obscene language by the Attorney General have brought Guyana to its lowest level.
Guyana is no longer democratic and the freedom of the people is in jeopardy. Many are hopeless and are on their knees begging for someone to help them. But as poor as they are and as hopeless as they can be, the people have had it with this dictatorial, anti-working class and corrupt PPP regime.
The PPP cabal has used the last straw to break the camel’s back by proroguing Parliament. There are dark clouds hovering over Guyana but behind every dark cloud, there is a silver lining. We want to assure the masses that hope is alive and well and it is only a matter of time before the unrighteous Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal is removed from office.
With elections around the corner, we are confident that the PPP will be defeated and the opposition is prepared to assume the mantle of power. Anyone trying to find out what policy options the AFC and APNU would pursue if elected to office will most certainly not have to worry, because unlike the PPP which is yet to present a solid economic policy, the opposition has a sound economic and human development policy for advancing Guyana.
Both parties are for greater divestment of state enterprises as a means of citizen empowerment. They would create a balance between public and private sector involvement in the economy and would implement new crime-fighting strategies that would dramatically reduce drug trafficking and crime, especially gang warfare, murders and armed robberies. They would improve the ailing health sector and the collapsing educational system by removing the square pegs in round holes and replacing them with qualified and experienced personnel.
In particular, the AFC and APNU have a very robust plan to deal with those who abuse, exploit and traffic children. They would certainly develop a customer-focused, knowledge-driven and law-respecting society of the future. Unlike the visionless do-nothing president, the leaders of the opposition have a vision that will set Guyana on a path of rapid development thus transforming it from a Third World-low income country to one of a developing-middle income country within five to ten years.
As the AFC leader, Khemraj Ramjattan said in Parliament Monday November 10, the prorogation of Parliament will foster deeper cooperation between the AFC and APNU and they will do everything in their power, including mass protest to get rid of this rogue PPP cabal. Moses Nagamootoo rightly said “they must go and they must go now.”
By proroguing Parliament, the inept PPP cabal has fired the opposition who the majority of Guyanese have voted for. The ungrateful PPP cabal is clearly telling the people that they do not have to answer to them for their actions because they will be elected to office no matter what they do.
In other words, the do-nothing president and the unschooled General Secretary believe that the people are foolish. Evidence of this lies in the fact that the do-nothing president and his cabal have stated that the Attorney General has done nothing wrong and that he was illegally taped by Kaieteur News reporter Leonard Gildarie. They have ignored the fact that Mr. Nandlall had admitted that it is his voice on the tape. The fact that the PPP cabal continues to support the Attorney General shows that the cabal lacks integrity, morality and decency.
The PPP has claimed that the people are not interested in their corrupt practices, the high crime rate, their arrogance and contempt for the constitution and disrespect for the people.
On the other hand the leaders of the opposition have integrity, morality and have set very high standards for themselves. They also believe that Guyanese are very intelligent and that they would elect the opposition not only because of their leaders’ honesty, integrity, likeable personality, but because of their sound economic and human policy to develop the country and a security plan to protect the people from the armed bandits.
The opposition will reduce corruption and crime, improve the lives of the poor and the working class, reduce youth unemployment and professionalize the Police Force, and inspire them to honour their motto which is “to serve and protect.”
They are not bothered by the hard work of providing a framework for governing a complex, multi-ethnic, inherently cynical, constantly evolving society burdened by escalating crime and corruption, and a culture of near total dependency. Unlike the PPP cabal, the opposition will not rape the treasury and rule in the interests of their rich friends, but for all Guyanese. They will definitely put the interest of the people and the country first.
Therefore, a change in government means a change from immaturity, dishonesty and corrupt practices of the PPP regime to a more immensely matured and honest AFC/APNU administration that knows the art of governance and which will formulate policies to tackle a range of issues, from health, education, crime, and food production, to culture and any of the myriad challenges facing the nation.
