Remand prisoner and murder accused Kevin Hintzen, called ‘Ratty’, 25, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, has been
jailed for three years on a possession of narcotics charge.
Hintzen was caught with 78 grams of cannabis sativa in the confines of the jail. According to Prosecutor Sergeant Godfrey Playter on October 8, last, the accused was seen acting in a suspicious manner. He was challenged and the narcotic was found concealed in a plastic bag hidden in his crotch.
He was arrested and later charged.
Hintzen who appeared before Magistrate Sherdel-Isaacs Marcus on Tuesday in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court, was found guilty and was sentenced to three years in jail and fined $30,000 with an alternative of an additional six months in jail.
He was charged along with a teenager and a juvenile for the murder of security guard Jagdat Ramcharran called “Ronald” between January 6 and January 7, 2013. The man’s body was found bound and gagged at the Iskcon Hari Krishna Mandir at Block 6 Williamsburg Corentyne, Berbice.
The police had initially held three men for the burglary of a Digicel\Cell Smart outlet at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. They were found in possession of the stolen items. The men had sustained injuries during the break in as blood was found in the building. Two of the men eventually admitted to being involved in the murder of the security guard. The men then named others who were part of the gang that raided the Mandir on the fateful night. They stated that six of them were involved.
Hintzen along with two others were also charged with break and enter and larceny.
