Gavin Wilson sunk the fastest goal, in just 4 seconds, which eventually
proved to be sufficient to propel Santos FC to the semi-final round when that team opposed Pele in the GFA/Stag Beer 2014 Futsal Football tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) last Thursday evening. A decent crowd graced the venue and was brought to life when Wilson latched on to a pass and slammed in the perfect shot. Despite launching a spirited assault throughout the game, Pele were just unable to emulate the feat and Wilson’s early effort stood to the end.
Alpha United also booked the other semi-final spot after hammering Fruta Conquerors 6-2 compliments of goals by Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant and Parades Aldair; both netted doubles, while Dwight Peters and Chris Camacho contributed one goal apiece. Daniel Favourite and Eon Alleyne narrowed the defeat, albeit inconsequentially, for Fruta Conquerors.
Fans are now assured of two scintillating semi-final matches when Alpha take on Western Tigers and Santos oppose Rhythm Squad this evening with the winners progressing to the finals scheduled for Saturday November 22.
Meanwhile, spectators were also treated to several exhibition games, none more exciting than the encounter between the media and referees where the former team prevailed 4-0. The media fielded two guest players in Jonas Westling and Jacob Stephenson and the former player netted twice with support from Esan Griffith and Rawle Toney. Referee, Wayne Griffith was placed on the sideline after receiving two yellow cards which amounted to a red while his teammate, Errol Squires also received a yellow card for an indiscretion. Otherwise, a GFA All Stars women team mauled Little Divas 6-1.
