In what can be described as a pre-Flex Night muscle showdown, bodybuilders from gyms in Berbice
will take to the stage tomorrow to see who will emerge to do battle on the National Cultural Centre Flex Night International stage.
Officially named the Flex Night Berbice, this third consecutive event is set for the Skeldon High School Annexe with muscle flexing to start at 19:00hrs following the weigh-in of athletes at 17:30hrs.
In 2012 the event was held at the Berbice High School, moving to Port Mourant on the Central Corentyne last year and now to Skeldon on the Upper Corentyne. The main force behind the event is Mr. Lindon Murray, a household name in bodybuilding and powerlifting circles on the Corentyne and a veteran contest organizer.
He is being supported by Mr. Raheem Ali, owner of the House of Pain Gym and his team from Port Mourant. Raheem is also the Berbice Regional Coordinator of Flex Night Inc. Several gyms in Regions 5 and 6 will be fielding athletes tomorrow night – from New Amsterdam Winderou Gym and Fitness Zone, from Central Corentyne Lifetime Fitness and House of Pain Gym while Upper Corentyne will be represented by a large contingent from Back Centre Gym and the Taj Mahal Gym. Taj Mahal has two female participants who will be making their debut on the stage. Meanwhile, Caerus Cipriani, holder of the Mr. Fitness Paradise 2014 title, will be the special guest poser. Cipriani is no stranger to top bodybuilding engagements. Based on his performance at this year’s Senior Nationals he was selected to represent Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships in St. Maarten.
However, an unfortunate vehicular accident hampered his final preparation and he had to withdraw from the local squad. He is now refining his preparations to be a competitor in the Flex Night International event, billed for Sunday December 7 at the National Cultural Centre.
His flair for posing was ably demonstrated on the Pegasus stage in both his Mr. Flex Night and Mixed Pairs appearances. In the latter he partnered with Marcia Legall to thrill the audience. Berbice bodybuilding fans can therefore look forward to some classic execution on Saturday night when Caerus Cipriani takes the stage.
Flex Night Inc. is committed to giving technical and administrative support to the Flex Night Berbice, since the event helps to promote the sport of bodybuilding in the Ancient County and to stimulate participation not only in Flex Night events but also in other national and Federation-run bodybuilding contests.
