A former Police Constable, Michael Pollydore, was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on November 4, last, without being a licenced firearm holder, he had in his possesion; one glock pistol, one .40 and eight .9mm live rounds of ammunition.
Pollydore was represented by Attorney-At-Law Patrice Henry, who told the court that Pollydore’s sister and a man identified as one Desmond McPherson got into an altercation during which a firearm was withdrawn.
Prosecutor Sergeant Vishnu Hunt told the court that the facts of the matter did not differ from the defence except that the defendant escaped when he was sent to find his sister. McPherson allegedly left the woman’s home in a vehicle that was also used by the defendant. While the sister was making a report to the police, McPherson, upon returning, parked the vehicle in front of the Pollydore’s home.
The vehicle was later taken to the Police Station where a search was conducted in the absence of the ex-cop, and the firearm and ammunition were allegedly found.
Pollydore was told of the offence, arrested and detained for seventy-two hours.
Henry told the court that his client is a 30-year-old father of three who has no previous brushes with the law.
He was granted $100,000 bail on each charge and the matter has been adjourned until January 13.
