The palm of a female fifth-form student of St. George’s Secondary School was pierced with a scissors yesterday.
Fortunately for her, she sustained the lesser injury as she was successful in avoiding a stab to her chest, dealt by a fourth form boy in the school.
Timera Prince, of Princes Street, Lodge, received three stitches for the wound in her right palm and is now fearful of returning to the school.
According to her mother, Onika Prince, the school’s authority did not take her child to the hospital when the incident occurred; instead, they called and asked her to visit the school to discuss the matter.
“They don’t want people to know about this story. They tie up my daughter wrist and leave her lying on a bench in the teacher’s room, waiting for me to come in to talk to them. Only when I was finished with that, that I get to take Timera to the hospital. That showed that they don’t care and are highly unprofessional,” the worried mother related.
The stabbing, which reportedly occurred around 14:00 hours, was said to have been committed by a male fourth former in the school, who had recently developed a deep fondness for the fifth former.
According to Timera Prince, she had no prior relationship with the suspect and insists that she does not even know his name.
“This boy start troubling me a while now and I always stay far from him in school because he makes me very uncomfortable. I don’t know his name and I don’t want to,” she said.
She said that the incident started in her classroom when the fourth former entered and insisted that she “likes a boy named Roberts.”
Prince said that she denied the accusation and proceeded to walk out of the classroom in disgust.
According to her, the fourth-former subsequently followed her out of the class and grabbed her by the hand, demanding the “truth.”
At this point, Prince said that she scuffled her way out of his hold and immediately ran inside her classroom seeking the help of her friends.
The fourth former, enraged at this time, tailed the girl back to her classroom and again grabbed her by the hand. In an effort to defend herself and evade the bully’s presence, Prince said that she decided to hit him.
Unfortunately, her action of self-defence further enraged the fourth-former and he pulled out a pair of scissors from his pocket and stabbed at her chest. Luckily, Prince was able to use her right hand to block the attempt at seriously wounding her.
The mother of the fifth-form girl said that she intends to take the matter further with the police and the school’s authority.
The matter was reported at the Brickdam Police Station and the alleged assailant, remains in the custody of his parents at home.
