They toil on a daily basis, devoid of some of the most basic requirement, yet they
press on with the hope that their fortunes will change someday. Last Monday afternoon, the boxers plying their trade at the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) received a glimmer of hope when overseas based Guyanese sports enthusiast, Raymond Hall, donated a set of gear to assist in their daily preparations.
Hall resides in the United States of America but has invested in the local business industry, owning several stores popularly known as the ‘Dollar Store.’ He said that he is a lover of the sport and when approached to render assistance he could not possibly say no. The gear consists of gloves, mittens and jump ropes among others.
Mr. Hall visited the James Street based gym and shortly after handing over the gift, spoke with the boxers after they had completed their training sessions. He expounded on the virtues of the sport even as he urged the pugilists to strive for great heights. He also promised to pay some interest in the boxers’ future development and hinted of further support in the near future.
Top female boxer, Theresa London expressed gratitude to Mr. Hall on behalf of the coaches and her other colleagues. She assured the businessman that his efforts are noted and the boxers would aspire to attain the lofty heights of which he spoke.
The Forgotten Youth Foundation is a gift to the boxing community by boxing promoter and head of the People’s Syndicate Promotions, Keith Bazilio. Recently promoted, level three star coach, Sebert Blake, and former Jnr/Featherweight Fecarbox Champion, Joseph Murray, are the coaches responsible for the boxers’ development at that institution.
