The multi- million dollar Central Police Station in New Amsterdam will be Berbice’s most modern police station upon completion in the next two months. The old facility was torn down a few months ago to make way for what is expected to be a more people- friendly facility which will offer a variety of services to members of the community under one building. Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee and other government and security forces officials toured and inspected the LFS Burnham Street facility recently.
Rohee noted how pleased he was about the manner in which the construction is going and which is expected to be completed in two months.
He expressed satisfaction that many of the services offered by ‘B’ Division of the Guyana Police Force will be housed in one building. He stated that the enquiries, juvenile section, abuse section, CID, Police Complaints as well as two new lock- ups will all be in one building.
Construction on the facility started about a year ago. There will also be landscaping of the compound. Additionally, the Barrack Rooms will be refurbished.
The Minister was accompanied by PPP Executive Member, Mr. Zulfikar Mustapha; Region Six Chairman, Mr. David Armogan; PPP MP, Mr. Faizal M. Jaffarally; and Senior Sup’t of ‘ B’ Division, Guy Nurse.
