– Deo dethrones Sukhram

Avinash Persaud made it five wins at the Digicel 2014 Guyana Open Golf Tournament after dethroning his brother and defending champion Avinda Kishore to capture the most prestigious event on the local calendar yesterday at the Lusignan Course.
Playing before a large crowd, Persaud, who is no stranger to the honours Board, having won four previous titles, led from start to finish, relegating his sibling Avinda into second place after finishing with a superior overall gross 144 and a net 140 after registering a gross of 70 and a net 68 for the day playing off a 2 handicap.
His brother Avinda Kishore occupied the second spot with an overall gross 153 and a net of 147 after posting final day figures of a 74 gross and a net 71.
Rishi Suknanan finished third with an overall gross 160 following an 84 gross and a net 77 for a total net of 146.
In the Ladies division, Joaan Deo finished with an overall net of 141 and a gross of 181 to claim the title and in the process dethrone multiple times champion Christine Suhkram.
Deo recorded an 87 gross and a 67 net on the second day to separate her from first day joint leader Shanella Webster, who ended in the runner up spot.
Webster staved off a stiff challenge from defending champion Sukhram after posting a total net of 146 and a gross of 190 and an individual final day tally of 72 and 94 respectively.
Sukhram registered a total net of 146 and a gross 167 for third place after posting individual scores of 74 net and 83 gross respectively on the final day.
Mohamed Shaffie beat Sepaul Suknanan and Roy Cummings in that order to grab the 10-18 Flight.
Digicel’s Head of Marketing Jacqueling James, Customer Care Director Sherwin Osbourne and Head of Sales Nalini Vieira assisted in the presentation of prizes to the respective winners.
