There were 168 Cubans who came to the agreement that the Havana-based Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute will be the venue to the first International Course for the prevention and fighting against Ebola in the Americas, according to President of the Guyana Cuba Solidarity Movement (GCSM) Haleem Khan.
He explained that the meeting wound up after issuing a series of proposals such as the keeping of epidemiological surveillance on persons coming from areas where the ebola virus can be transmitted and have been at risk; gathering complete information on passenger transport means, crews and travelers arriving to countries; exchanging experiences among different countries on learned lessons about Ebola and define the ways to send samples to laboratories of international reference.

It was further noted that the meeting on the prevention and fight against Ebola, held in Havana this past week, revealed the need for the countries of the region to join efforts for their benefit and allowed to deepen knowledge and share experiences to be in better conditions to face the disease and assist African countries.
The Cuban government, Khan asserted understands the importance for unity in the face of other challenges posed on health, such as climate change, the food situation and poverty.
