Passenger killed, three injured as car smashes into truck
…one dead, three injured
A 23-year-old man was killed and three others injured after the car in which they were travelling slammed into
Dead: Torick McLennon
a truck on the Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara Public Road at around 05.30 hrs yesterday.
The dead man has been identified as Torick McLennon of Zeskendren, Mahaicony, ECD. Those injured are Elias Ross, 25, of Zeskendren as well as Hollin Roberts, 22, and Calvin Mc Lennon, 21, both of Farm, Mahaicony.
Ross has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), while Roberts has been admitted to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital. Calvin McLennon was treated and sent away. Torick Mc Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital.
According to reports, McLennon was allegedly driving at a fast rate, when he lost control and collided with a truck.
Eyewitnesses say that the three occupants of the car were flung onto the roadway while Mc Lennon, the driver, was pinned behind the staring wheel.
“When the truck blow he horn, it (the car) nah stop…the car did driving full speed,” a passenger in the truck said.
Meanwhile, a villager said that around 05:30 hrs, he heard the truck’s horn.
“When I look out the window, I see the truck actually off the road. The louder the truck blow its horn, this car de still driving fast,” he said.
“Like the car driver sleep way and he end up straight in the truck. When I rush downstairs and run out, I see the fellow them pitch out and deh on the road. The driver did pin down by the steering wheel,” the villager added.
The man said that there are usually several cows on the roads, and he had at first assumed that the truck had struck a cow.
“When me rush out and go out, me see one of the fellow deh on the ground trembling up and the driver pin down inside there…He dead on the spot.”
The eye witness related that he took the occupants of the tinted car to the hospital.

Also, the dead man’s aunt, Nicola Halley, was unable to say where Mc Lennon was heading to at the time. “All I get is a message that he reach up in an accident and I know they got to bring he to the hospital, so I came here.”
She said too that her nephew would sometimes use his car as a taxi. Halley added that Mc Lennon is employed with his pastor’s father as a construction worker.
According to her, he was the only son for his mother, who passed away 15 months ago.
