Betsy Ground Triple Star registered a huge win over Reliance Young Strikers to end up tied with Young Restless of Reliance Abandon at the top of Zone F (East Canje) of the 2014 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice. By virtue of having the better run rate of the two, Betsy Ground were declared the winners of the zone and thus advanced to the last – 16 playoffs of the competition.
In the aforementioned match, Wahmeshwar Sabhai hit 104 (13 fours and 6 sixes), his brother Krishan 76 (8 fours and 3 sixes) and the captain Samuel Sanicharra 86 (11 fours and 1 six) to pace Betsy Ground to 387 for 6 in 40 overs, the highest score by a team in this year’s competition so far. Reliance Young Strikers were bowled out for 150 in reply with Mark Persaud contributing a fighting 71 (13 fours and 2 sixes).
No. 55 May Flower won their final Zone M (Upper Corentyne – North) preliminary to end unbeaten in and on top of that zone, thus also moving on to the playoffs. In that match against No. 47 Pioneer, opening batsman Mahadeo Anand’s 89 (5 fours and 7 sixes) help them to 219 for 7 in 30 overs. Then pacer Oudal Budhram took 5 for 32 from 5 overs to see No. 47 bowled out for 68 in reply.
After Courtland All Star made 160 against Seawell, Travis Williams took 6 for 8 from 6 overs to help keep Seawell down to 116 in reply.
