Regal, Wolf’s Warriors, Karibee Boys, Uprisers among winners

135 runs when the fourth edition of the Guyana Softball Cup organized by the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) got under way yesterday.
Playing at the Police Sports Club ground Eve Leary in the Open category, Marks slammed 104 and got support from Avinash Sookdeo 38 and Patrick Khan 35 as Farm XI posted 236-4 off their allotted 20 overs, batting first. R. Sookdeo took 2-81. Karibee Boyz were bowled out for 101 in 13.3 overs in their turn at the crease with D. Hardyal scoring 23; Shafeek Ishmile claimed 4-19 and Sookdeo 3-32.
Wolf’s Warriors overcame Corriverton by four wickets. Corriverton batted first and managed 173 all out in 20 overs. Darshan Challitar led with 56 and Clinton Pestano 20. Ameer Nizamudeen took 3-23 and Mark Harold 2-34. Wolf’s Warriors replied with 174-6 in 19.3 overs. Amrit Rai cracked 36, Safraz Karim 31 and Diaram Persaud 25.
Karibee Boyz got the better of Cotton Field Wild Oats by 57 runs. Karibee Boyz took first strike and scored 174-4 in 20 overs. Javed Mohamed made 60 and Lallbachan Veerasammy 34; Rovindra Parsram captured 3-30 and Ganesh Mangal 2-29. Cotton Field responded with 161-9 in 20 overs. Shaz Grovensor got 43 as Veerasammy snared 4-19 and Latchman Balgobin 3-44.
Farm went down to Petema Enterprise by two wickets. Farm made 117 all out in 16.5 overs. Marks smashed 41; Nandshyaam Boodhoo grabbed 4-13. Petena Enterprise replied with 118-8 in 18.5 overs. Zamal Khan and Safraz Ali led with 29 and 25 respectively.
Regal beat South Florida by three wickets. South Florida were sent packing for 94 in 18.4 overs, batting first. Sewchand Budhu picked up 3-8 and Richard Latiff 3-27. Regal knocked off the required target in 18.4 overs ending on 99-7. Latiff made 31; Dianand Singh and Shalindra Ramnauth had two scalps each.
South Florida thumped Parika Defenders by seven wickets. Parika Defenders were skittled for 93 in 18.1 overs, batting first. Yougister Bachan made 21; Dayram Ramroop had 3-10 and Ramnauth 3-15. South Florida replied with 97-3 in 12.2 overs. Harrinarine Chattergoon made 38.
At Everest, Petema Enterprise trounced Cotton Field by six wickets. Cotton Field were bowled out for 113 in 16.1 overs, batting first. Fazeer Khan and Grovensor made 20 each; Narine Raghunandan snared 4-24. Petena Enterprise replied with 114-4 in 15 overs. Devindra Deosarran slammed 51 and Toolsie Sahadeo 45. Marvin Pearson took 2-25.
Uprisers lost to Dant of Canada by four wickets. Uprisers batted first and made 176-9 in 19.3 overs, innings closed. Chris Patadin scored 62 and Greg Singh 39; Waheid Edwards captured 4-19. Dant responded with 177-6 in 19.5 overs. Surujpaul Deosarran slammed 59.
Parika Defenders went down to NY All Stars by five wickets. Parika made 157 all out batting first. Travis Drakes slammed 53 as Prahalad and Khalid Haslim took two wickets each. NY All Star replied with 159-5 in 16.4 overs. Waslim Haslim got 49.
Uprisers overcame Corriverton by four wickets. Corriverton made 167 all out in 18.3 overs, taking first knock. D. Challitar scored 45; Latchman Chinapen had three wickets. Uprisers made 169-6 in 19 overs in reply. Ramo Malone cracked 49.
Wolf’s Warriors thumped Dants by one wicket. Dants batted first and scored 142 all out in 19.4 overs. Surujpaul led with 32; Vishun Tammichandra bagged 5-28. Wolf’s Warriors responded with 146-9 in 20 overs. Karim smashed 64.
At Malteenoes SC, Regal defeated New York All Stars by seven wickets. NY All Stars were knocked over for 119, taking first strike. Wasim Haslim made 27; Fazal Rafiek claimed 4-14 and Suresh Budhu 2-38. Regal responded with 120-3 in 17.2 overs. Chien Gittens stroked 38 and Sachin Singh 32; Bhola Prahalad took 2-21.
At MYO, Regal trounced Brooklyn by seven wickets. Brooklyn took first knock and were skittled for 115. Regal reached their target in 12.5 overs, ending on 121-3. Raymond Harper slammed 60 not out.
At Ogle, Savage beat Seaview by one run. Savage made 104 before restricting Seaview for 103.
At the DCC ground, Floodlight defeated Brooklyn Queen after the former team batted first and scored 188-7. They then routed out Brooklyn Queen for 63 in just 13.1 overs. Floodlights then returned later in the day to decisively defeat Wellman. In this encounter Floodlight notched up 218-8 after taking first strike. Wellman turned in a gritty response but only managed to reach 155-9 when their overs expired.
Also at the DCC, Regal Masters defeated East Coast Masters in a keenly contested affair. East Coast Masters compiled 164-4 in their allotted 20 overs while Regal Masters lashed off the required total (165-3) in 18.2 overs. Despite being a part of the losing team, Jagdish Persaud lashed an even hundred while Fazleem Mohamed scored 25. Raymond Harper was the architect of East Coast Masters destruction with 2-11. Eon Abel smashed 55 and Jagdesh Bhoj 35 for the winners.
East Coast Masters then repaired the damage somewhat when they defeated South Florida to stay in contention. The former team batted first and amassed 197-7 after Jagdesh Persaud had posted a thrilling 40 with support from David Harper (39) and Fazleel Mohamed (30*). B. Ramkellowan was the bright spot for the opposition with 2-33. N Ramsaywack shone with the ball for Masters after sending down 4 overs for 20 runs with 3 wickets.
Over at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Better Hope NYC defeated Parika Defenders; Better Hope scored 187 after taking first strike and then returned to restrict the opposition to 178. K Sanichar (39) and A. Sadloo (32) combined to lead their team over the line despite a sterling contribution with the ball from Rafik Rambarose of Parika; he bowled 4 overs for 23 runs and took 3 wickets.  The competition continues today.
Meanwhile, Bel Air Rubis joined the list of sponsors, presenting their sponsorship on Thursday.  Retail Accounts Executive, Rhonda Johnson of Rubis Guyana, through their brand TOTAL, presented the package to Ramchand Ragbeer, President of GFSCA in the presence of Floodlights foreign based player Anand Persaud.
