Burglars have been on a rampage in the Amelia’s Ward area over the past two weeks; the most recent
theft being committed Wednesday night on a premises belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jennings, with millions of dollars worth in appliances, jewellery, cash and foodstuff being carted off.
According to a distraught Mrs. Jennings, they secured their home at 1761 Central Amelia’s Ward on Tuesday, and went to their farmhouse in West Watooka, with the intention of returning yesterday afternoon.
“It is not the first time we lock up and go to our farm house. I sent my niece this morning (yesterday) to collect some things to cook and when she reach she notice a brick on de ground and a glass break on the door, so she ent touch nothing. She call we and we call the police and come home and see de whole place ransacked. They eat out de ice cream, drink de wine, de rum and is like they had a feast.”
Neighbours claimed that they didn’t see or hear anything unusual, except that they heard the dogs barking. One neighbour said when she heard the dogs barking she called the Jennings’ landline and when she got no answer she called another neighbour and was told that they were at home.
Among the items stolen from the Jennings’ home are a freezer, surround sound system, computer, printer, TV, DVD, digital cameras, two cases of red wine, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police are investigating.
