Former President’s College student, 24-year-old Rushanna Danielle Tinisha Marks, was yesterday admitted to the Bar after having her petition presented by Attorney at Law Roger Yearwood before Justice Rishi Persaud.
The Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, resident is the second of three children for Col. Marks and Claudia Trotz-Rodney. She attended the Greenwich Park Primary School. In 2001 she graduated as the top Secondary Schools Entrance Examination student of her school. She was among the Top 10 Students of Region Three at the said examination.
She was also awarded the prize for the best graduating student of the East Bank Essequibo sub-area. Thereafter, she enrolled at the President’s College (School of Excellence) where in 2006 she excelled at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate and was awarded a Certificate in Business Studies.
Opting for a career in law, in a quest to fulfill her childhood dream, Rushanna Marks undertook the foundation subjects and was outstanding at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in 2007 and 2008 and was awarded the prize for Best Graduating Law Student (2008), Second Most Outstanding Graduating Student (2008) and ultimately was awarded The Toussaint Boyce Award for the most Outstanding Arts student in 2008.
She enrolled and completed the Preparatory Law Programme before going on to pursue the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme at the University of Guyana.
She proceeded to the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad in September 2012 and was successful at the Legal Education Certificate Examinations. She graduated on October 4, 2014 with her Legal Education Certificate.
During her time at Hugh Wooding she was a member of the Human Rights Committee as well as the Cultural and Entertainment Committee for academic year 2013-2014.
During her spare time, she undergoes training facilitated by an educational institution which teaches clients how to trade and profit on the financial markets. She is also in the process of becoming a member of the St. Augustine Rotaract Club of Trinidad.
“My hope is that when I confront legal problems, I don’t just think about the law. The law after all is often binary. I hope that I can recognize that part of beauty is in nuance, in complication – that sometimes there may be two answers or no answers. That fairness does not have to exclude efficiency. Good things have bad sides, that good people make bad mistakes that good rules can have bad results, that it’s not as simple as good and evil, right or wrong, or right or left.” Marks said during her admission statement.
