to the Bar on Friday. His successful petition was presented before Justice Brassington Reynolds, by Attorney-at-Law Mr. Andrew Pollard, who noted the academic and professional achievements of the young lawyer.
Major Shahoud gained his formal education at the St Theresa’s Primary School in New Amsterdam, and the St Margaret’s Primary and North Georgetown Secondary Schools in Georgetown. Upon the completion of his secondary education, Maj. Shahoud enlisted in the Guyana Defence Force.
He benefited from training on several courses both locally and overseas. During his service, he has held numerous appointments, and is currently a Legal Officer, in the GDF’s Legal Services Department.
Maj. Shahoud, proceeded to read for a pre-law programme at the University of Guyana, in 2008, and later received a military scholarship to pursue the Bachelor of Law Degree -gaining a distinction – and the Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
He was also awarded the Ann Blue Award for the most outstanding second year student at the University of Guyana.
In accepting the petition, Justice Reynolds stated that he was well aware of the character of the Attorney, and could personally concur with statements contained in the Petition. He commended the young Attorney on his achievements, and urged him to maintain a high degree of professional discipline, and to avoid the ‘short cuts’, which inevitably destroy the moral fabric.
He then invited Maj. Shahoud to take the Oath after which he formally welcomed him to the Bar.
Attorney at Law Shahoud, expressed gratitude to Justice Reynolds, the GDF Chief of Staff, Brigadier Mark Phillips, and the Guyana Defence Force for their support. He was also appreciative of all those who were directly or indirectly involved in enabling his successes to date.
“Your Honour, I am quite aware of the long and narrow road ahead. I pledge that I will do my best to uphold the high standards required of me, and will continue to serve this Nation in whatever capacity my superiors deem best. Thank you and God bless our great nation.”
Among those present to celebrate his achievement, were GDF Chief of Staff, Brigadier Mark Phillips, Officer Commanding the GDF Legal Services Department, Attorney-at-Law, Mrs. Mellissa Yearwood-Stewart, Ms. Mercedez Hernandez and other friends.
