…as land dispute shooting death PI continues
Four envelopes containing the gun, magazine and rounds believed to have been used in the Caracas house demolition shooting death were tendered into evidence when the preliminary inquiry continued in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.
The preliminary inquiry is being conducted by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus against New Amsterdam businessman Charles Henry, called ‘Charles Bristol’, or ‘Wheels’, 52, of Main Street and Lad Lane, New Amsterdam.
Bristol is on trial for the shooting to death of Errol Lindo, called ‘Son Son’, 51, on Wednesday April 21, at High Dam, Caracas, West Canje.
When the matter continued two more witness testified. Detective Corporal Darmendra Inderpaul, led by Sergeant Godfrey Playter, gave his evidence while Detective Corporal Phillip Walters concluded his testimony.
Inderpaul testified to being the lead investigator on the day in question. Detective Walters who was also part of the investigative team tendered the items which were marked as exhibits in the matter. Both police officers were grilled by the two defence lawyers present Mortimer Codette and Horatio Edmonson. Lead Counsel, Attorney at Law Nigel Hughes was absent.
Other witnesses, Travis Crandon, Cassandra Arthur and Police Detective Corporal Ryan Caesar who witnessed the post mortem had earlier given evidence.
The incident allegedly stemmed from an ongoing feud between the businessman and some residents in the area over the illegal occupation of his land.
On the day in question Bristol and some workmen were in the process of dismantling a house which allegedly belongs to Lindo. It is alleged that the enraged man was shot after he ran into the yard and attacked the businessman with an axe.
He was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he succumbed.
Henry and his workmen were subsequently confronted by a hostile crowd that had gathered at the scene. The men fled and Henry took refuge in a nearby residence. His Toyota Carina 192 bearing registration number PGG 4048 was burnt and overturned. He had to be rescued by the police who had to fire warning shots in the air to thwart the angry crowd.
Residents in the area staged a protest through the streets of New Amsterdam the following day.
The matter is set for continuation on November 4.
