A self employed man is currently nursing gunshot wounds at the Georgetown Public Hospital
Corporation (GPHC), after an altercation resulted in him being shot twice to his right leg on Thursday night, at “Guinness Bar”, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
According to 34-year-old Quacy McPherson, of West Road, Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, the incident escalated when an individual, whom he did not know, “bumped” into him for the second time while he was “drinking” at the bar in celebration of Diwali.
McPherson said that he viewed the “first bump as an accident” and allegedly told the individual to be careful with his steps. After his caution to the individual, he said that they both proceeded with their business, peacefully.
“After he bump into me again, I take it as full disrespect because it look like something he purposely do, so I had to pull he up and that’s how the big argument start,” he said.
In the course of arguing, McPherson said that he was suddenly circled by “at least five” of the man’s associates, who allegedly started threatening him with death.
Sensing danger, McPherson said that he tackled his way out of the encirclement and attempted to make a run for it, but was shot in the process.
“After we start row, a set a he friends gang up on me in a circle. I seh now is bare problems, so I find a crack and buss through with a speed to get away but one of them man end up shoot me up on my foot,” he related.
McPherson said that he started “screaming” to alert nearby residents and this subsequently caused the men to escape from the scene.
The 34-year-old said that he was rushed to GPHC in a taxi by public spirited citizens.
He noted that both gunshots, one to his shin and the other to his thigh, exited his right leg.
