The October 2014 Criminal session of the Berbice High Court; opened on Tuesday with the usual pomp and ceremony in front of the Berbice High Court building on Esplanade Road, New Amsterdam.
The Parade, which included a march past, was commanded by Cadet Officer Jevon Hamer with Inspector Edson Davidson as the parade Inspector, while Sergeant Michael Newland led the 27-man strong contingent in an impressive display accompanied by the police drum corps.
Justice James Bovell-Drakes, who is presiding in the October Criminal sessions of the Berbice High Court, inspected the Guard of Honour. Justice Bovell-Drakes was accompanied by Justice Sandra Kurtzious who is presiding in the civil court in Berbice.
They were escorted by Commander of B Division Assistant Commissioner, Brian Joseph, Cadet Officer Ronald Ally and Officer in Charge of the New Amsterdam Prison, Senior Superintendent Linden Cornette.
Also accompanying the parade were Officer in Charge of traffic, Assistant Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud and Inspector Seseupaul Jhagroop among others.
There are 37 persons in jail awaiting trial, 31 of them for murder. Of the 31, four are willing to plead. There are three persons in jail awaiting trial for sexual penetration while there is one each for carnal knowledge, unlawful wounding, and possession of firearm without a licence.
