Dear Editor,
I would like to vent my feelings, also the other Master Athletes 55 and over. I have represented Guyana outstandingly over the years in other countries with the assistance of kind friends, and my family. I have been treated with respect all along, only to know disrespect from the Guyana Athletics Association and its president.
I am 57 years and have been winning my age group also the younger age group and was upset to know that masters’ athletes did not receive cash incentives at the end of the Courts 10K when it was originally stated that would have been the case.
Instead the Masters athletes were given hampers, while the other categories including the Junior Athletes got cash. The IAAF rules say juniors must not received cash incentives.
I want to know if the members of the AAG care about our athletes’ futures, if so why give cash incentives to juniors and not masters 55 and over. What go for one age group should go for all. I am asking the sponsor to look into this and stop treating masters my age like if cash is not good for us, stop putting junior athletes in a position to lose the opportunity for a scholarship.
Below is the prize list originally sent out by the AAG. Could they say why Masters Athletes did not get the prizes stated?
COURTS (Guyana) Inc 3km Fitness Walk/Jog and 10km Road Race
