The Guyana Police Force has made it clear that it has not been advised to institute any charges against Kaieteur News Publisher, Glenn Lall.
The police were referring to a statement of alleged threats made to Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Khurshid Sattaur.
They were also responding to an article carried yesterday in a section of the local media, suspected to be owned by former President Bharrat Jagdeo and Dr. Ranjisinghi Bobby Ramroop. The article under the caption “Glenn Lall’s alleged threats to Sattaur —Police yet to charge Lall despite submission of DPP’s advice” was dismissed by the police.
In brief but strong response the Guyana Police Force clarified that the DPP has so far not advised that any charge be made in the matter.
According to the police, investigations into the matter were carried out and the file, which was initially sent to the DPP for advice, was returned to the police for some issues to be clarified.
The police explained that this was complied with by the police and the file was returned to the DPP yesterday.
Sattaur had reported to the police that Lall had used threatening language to him during a telephone conversation in August.
The article in question said that the DPP’s Communication Officer Liz Rahaman, explained that the file on the matter was received by the DPP’s office a week ago.
According to the article, Rahaman went on to further explain that “the DPP would have given her advice and the file was dispatched to the Crime Chief, Leslie James, on October 15.”
What the article did not say however, was what advice was given by the DPP, although it claimed that the “police were yet to charge Lall despite submission of DPP’s advice.”
