Pele FC continued to dominate the Guyana Football Association Division One Football League with a clinical display that earned it a 4-0 victory over Camptown FC when action in that tournament continued at the Tucville Ground last Sunday evening. Jumaine Somerset (20), Jamal Coacher (38), Okennie Fraser (42) and Marlon Nedd (64) were the architects of Pele’s victory and added a further three points to their team’s 19 to give them a comfortable 21 points to retain their frontline position.
Fruta Conquerors were also in winners’ row and scored a 1 nil victory over GFC after Kevin Barrow pasted the latter team’s goalie in the 51st minute. The Guyana Police Force and Northern Rangers battled in a keenly contested match and the former team eventually prevailed 4-2 after Gordon Junior netted a hat-trick in the 8th, 40th and ‘54th minutes with the other goal off the boot of Rawle Haynes in the 34th minute. Northern Rangers retaliated with two late goals off the boots of Deron Bowman (57) and Joel Jammont (63) but in the end it was too little too late.
Beacons and Flamingo also turned in spirited displays and the eventual 2-2 result underlined the efforts of both units. Kimba Braithwaite (19) and Kezfer Brandt (45) scored for Beacons, while Sheldon Gurrick (29) and Deon Allen (90) brought the situation back to equilibrium.
Activities continue tomorrow evening at the same venue when Police tackle GFC at 18:00hrs in the supporting match to Fruta and Camptown which gets underway at 20:00hrs.
Four days later, GFC will clash with Flamingo, while Beacon match skills with Northern Rangers. Camptown will also be in action against the Guyana Police Force moments before Fruta Conquerors square off with Pele. The action gets underway 14:00hrs.
