Dear Sports Editor,
Some people would do anything to hold on to power and Mr. Roger Harper is one of them.
On the 24th September 2014, Mr. Harper summoned an OGM of the GCA. His primary intention for doing so was to remove a founder member who dared to question the legality of his administration. The Third Class Cricket Club (association) is a current member of the GCA and is actively playing second Division Cricket.
Recently, that club filed a court action against Mr. Harper and his Executives because the GCA failed to have their AGM when it was constitutionally due. Also, the GCA continues to allow Ace Warriors, Diplomats and YMCA to vote although they do not participate in cricket tournaments organized by the GCA.
On Wednesday, Mr. Harper decided to evict Third Class Cricket Club and replace them with a Club from Sophia. (I cannot say anything about YMCA as they have not participated in cricket for about 10 years). Why evict a playing club when so many currently in the Association are not playing any cricket?
Third Class Cricket Association is a founder member of the GCA, is currently based at the DCC ground, and can only be evicted by a constitutional change supported by 2/3 majority at an AGM by submission of a Motion moved and seconded by members.
Mr. Harper sought to remove the club at an OGM referring to a letter read under correspondence and submitted by Malteenoes Sports Club. Ably guided by Mr. Claude Raphael, Mr. Harper evicted the club on a 7 to 5 vote after many delegates left the meeting in disgust.
Georgetown Cricket is in a crisis.
Mr. Harry Parmessar, Mr. Collander and others should not continue to be part of this partisan body that surely seems to be bias towards a chosen group, it is time you resign gentlemen. Mr. Shalim Baksh heads the Third Class Cricket Club, he and his club deserve equal rights and privilege as the other GCA Founding members and others that joined thereafter.
Mr. Roger Harper is “gerrymandering” the votes ahead of the long overdue GCA elections but we will not stand by and let this happen.
Attempts by the Harper and the GCA Executive to now include teams, purportedly representing non- playing member clubs, cannot and should not qualify them to vote at a meeting that should have been held since January 2013.
