– Port Kaituma residents
Residents of Port Kaituma are calling on the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) to place the company’s infrastructural work and pipelines deeper under the roadways since constant breakages and leakage have caused several roads to deteriorate rapidly.
“Fitzburg to Estate Street in Port Kaituma has a main pipeline that runs across the road that is clearly visible and constantly leaking for the past two years. The pipelines need to be buried deeper. This is causing frustration for the contractors doing the road right now,” one concerned resident noted.
The Port Kaituma district will be completing a section of road works soon.
“GWI pipelines are laid in some cases two to six inches below the surface and this has ruptured under pressure from heavy duty vehicles. The contractor who ran the GWI lines did not do it properly,” another resident stated.
