The principals of the Bush Lot United Turf Club (BLUTC) at the moment is overseeing massive rehabilitation work at the venue at Sea View Park, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice as preparations continue for their feature grand annual one day horserace meet set for Sunday 16th November at the club’s racetrack.
At the moment the entire structure is being rehabilitated or given a face lift as the authorities continue in their quest to make it the best for horseracing in the country. Work is ongoing on the track, the grand stand, the paddock, fencing, the rails, jockey board and the area to house officials. Most of the turns on the track will also be reshaped to give the animals a better flow in the races.
The supply of water, lighting and other amenities are being boosted. A number of truck loads of sand, dirt and other materials have being deposited at the venue to fill and level the low areas, while a Hymac is presently digging the drains and leveling the low areas. A grader is expected to start work soon.
According to Coordinator Lakeram ‘Buddy’ Sookdeo, the venue, which has been rated as the most improved over the years, is also known for its high standard of racing and they are bent on keeping it that way as they strive to be among the best in the country.
Most of the major stables in the country have indicated an interest in being a part of the action and have commenced training with The Jumbo Jet and Shariff racing stables expected to lead the way with over eight entries each followed by the Inshan Bacchus with five. Other big stables such as Elcock, Crawford, Jagdeo, Simple Royal, Night Eyes, Habibulla, Sooklall, Dookie, Robinson and Velloza are all expect to be among the entrants with multiple entries.
More sponsors are also on board with the Ministry of Tourism, Hand In Hand Insurance, Phagoo General Store and Qtrex International Shipping along with Banks DIH, Buddy Shivraj, Jumbo Jet, Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service, Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff and Lakeram ‘Buddy’ Sukhdeo have already being on board for the day’s meet.
The Feature race will be for horses classified ‘C’ and lower for a tantalizing $1M first prize from a total prize package of $2M and trophy with the animals set to cover 1600M.
The other events are the F and lower 1400M event for a $500,000 winning purse and trophy.
The 1600M race for three Year old Guyana and West Indies Bred and Born animals also for a first prize of $500,000 and trophy.
The 1200M event for two year old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses for a winners money of $400,000 and trophy. The G3 and lower 1200M race for a winning purse of $400,000 and trophy.
The ‘I’ and lower horses will compete over 1200M for a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
The final two races are for animals classified the J and lower and K and lower over 1400M and 1200M respectively for winning takes of $200,000 and $150,000 and trophies respectively.
Top individual performers including top jockey, stable and trainer will be presented with trophies compliments of the organizers.
