…goes into hiding
The young man, who was badly beaten, thrown out of his vehicle into a trench and left for dead by three gunmen last Monday evening, was released from the New Amsterdam Hospital yesterday and is currently at an undisclosed location, fearing for his life.
Doodnauth ‘Anil’ Tej, 32, of Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje is fearful that the three men, whom he never saw before that fateful night, would return to finish what they started—to end his life.
Tej related that while on his way to get gasoline at a Palmyra Service Station, three men, forced their way into his Silver-grey Toyota Ist motor car PSS 8775, at the vicinity of Canje Turn around 19:00 hrs where he had stopped briefly.
One of the men was in the front seat while the other two were in the back, ordering Tej to continue driving and act normal.
Tej continued along the Corentyne Highway.
“They started to ‘jook’ me with knives and hit me with a gun and beat me up!” he said.
Along the way, the men took control of Tej’s car after tying him up with pieces of rope and then placing him into the trunk.
Tej however managed to jump out of the vehicle somewhere in the Fyrish Backlands, Corentyne and the men drove off with his car.
The men also carted off his ATM card, NIS Card, $22,000, a $40,000 bangle and a wristwatch worth $33,000.
Tej, who was left lying on the dam, eventually lost consciousness as a result of the severe beating he received.
He told this newspaper that when he regained consciousness he realized that he was in a trench.
“Then I pull out of the trench and went for assistance by a house on Fyrish—I walked,” he stated.
The police, who were contacted, subsequently arrived there and took him to the Port Mourant Hospital after which he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
He had received three stab wounds in the back, a broken jaw, wounds to the head and is currently in severe pain.
Since the incident, there have been no arrests and according to Tej, the police have not reported any sighting of his car.
Tej related that he did not know the individuals and never saw them before that night. “I don’t want nobody to know where I am,” he stated.
Tej was employed as a Driver/Salesman with Ansa McAl, New Amsterdam Operations and is the sole breadwinner for his family. (Leon Suseran)
