Defending champions St. Pius will be facing another pressure game when they face Kitty-based F.E. Pollard in this year’s Courts / Petra Organisation Schools Pee Wee Football Competition which resumes tomorrow, at the Thirst Park ground.
The current champions have looked lackluster to date, managing two draws from as many matches and will have to secure full points in this encounter to stand a chance of qualifying automatically for the next round failing which they will have to fight to be among the best third placed teams to make it to the next phase.
They, however, engage a team that is coming off an impressive 6-0 victory against counterparts J.E. Burnham in their last fixture, a team that held the titlist to a goalless draw in the opening round of the competition.
St. Pius have not scored a goal to date in the tournament and seems devoid of any sort of potency up front, while F. E. Pollard looked menacing in attack in their previous clash with Quincy and Brian Williams supported by Makhaya Jarvis and Tramel McCurdy, being the chief architects of their victory.
They will once again be called upon to spearhead their quest for full points, but with the game being a must win for the champs the contest seems headed for a riveting showdown. The in-form Tucville faces St. Stephen’s and while the former should start as clear favourites to notch up their third consecutive win, St. Stephen’s will have all the incentive to be the first team to inflict a loss on the East Georgetown-based juggernauts.
Keion and Rayheem Marques have been the leading marksmen for Tucville, while Hosea Parkinson was the lone player on the score sheet for St. Stephen’s in their win over Thomas More last week.
Last year’s beaten finalist West Ruimveldt as always stays out the limelight, but they too have been impressive to date, notching up victories in both of their previous games. They clash with Comenius and must be heavily favoured to gain full points in this encounter.
The full fixtures are as follows:
Marian Academy versus North Georgetown; Winfer Gardens vs. Stella Maris; F. E. Pollard vs. St. Pius; J.E. Burnham vs. St. Angela’s; St. Margaret’s vs. South Ruimveldt; St. Ambrose vs. Smith Memorial; Tucville vs. St. Stephen’s; St. Gabriel’s vs. Thomas More; Success Academy vs. East La Penitence; Ketley vs. Enterprise; West Ruimveldt vs. Comenius and Green Acres vs. Redeemer. Starting time is 10:00 hrs.
