Persons, who are willing to donate blood for patients in need of the precious commodity at the Suddie Public Hospital, are currently unable to do so voluntarily. There is no trained Blood technician currently stationed at the Hospital.
This disclosure was made by PPP/C Councillor Shanta Springer, who was giving a health report, at Tuesday’s sitting of the monthly Regional Democratic Council meeting.
Springer said that the blood bank machine was not operational due to the lack of a permanent trained technician currently stationed at the Hospital. She said that the individual who normally operates the machine was on training. It has posed a further setback for the blood drive as well as for those patients who are booked to undergo surgeries.
The hospital remains reliant on the Georgetown Public Hospital to supply blood and this could take some time because of the distance.
Parmanand Persaud, head of the Region Two Administration, has given the assurance that he would be launching an investigation into the matter.
He has already told Councillor Springer that he was not aware of the current situation.
