Local intelligence monitoring ‘person of interest’ in Trini lawyer’s execution
A man who police described as key to the investigation into the assassination of Trinidad’s State Prosecutor, Senior
Killed: Trini lawyer, Dana Seetahal
Counsel Dana Seetahal, is now being closely monitored by police and other authorities in Guyana.
The man who is in his early thirties, left for Guyana last week stating on his travel document that he was going on vacation, according to a report in the Trinidad Newsday yesterday.
Newsday understands immigration authorities immediately alerted officers of the local Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit as well as the Homicide Bureau.
On his arrival in Guyana, the authorities there were asked by the TT police to closely monitor the man.
Sources revealed that up until yesterday the man was still in Guyana. Information reaching Newsday is that this is not the first time that the man has travelled to Guyana. Yesterday, sources revealed that the man’s whereabouts are being closely monitored by an elite intelligence unit in Guyana, which has been relaying information back to authorities in this country.
Newsday understands there are no travel restrictions on the man although he has been identified as key to the Dana Seetahal investigations.
He was constantly being monitored by officers of the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit. Sources also reveal that members of the National Security Council have been informed of the man’s travel to Guyana.
The authorities in TT are trying to determine if the man traveled to Guyana to use that destination as a route to travel to another country, possibly Venezuela to secure travel documents to move onto the Middle East to fight for the Islamic State (IS).
Contacted yesterday, Trinidad’s National Security Minister Gary Griffith confirmed that he had been informed that the man had left TT last week, but said he could provide no further details because of the sensitive nature of the matter.
However, police sources told Newsday officers the Homicide Bureau were awaiting critical feedback from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, before the Director of Public Prosecutions is approached to arrest and prosecute at least six persons in the Dana Seetahal murder.
The man is believed to be among the six persons to be arrested for Seetahal’s murder.
Yesterday marked 112 days since Seetahal was gunned down while driving her Volkswagon along Hamilton-Holder Street, Woodbrook.
She was a prominent attorney and state prosecutor of Trinidad and Tobago. She was also well known for serving as a commissioner on the Linden Commission of Inquiry a few years ago in Guyana.
