Devise new strategies to deal with incidents of suicide

Dear Editor,
As we continue to witness the increase in the incidence of suicide among our youths, it must be seen as imperative that we examine the efforts of the various agencies concerned with its eradication, and devise some new strategies to deal with this tragic phenomenon within our society.
I have no doubt that the organisations involved are vigorously striving towards stopping our young people from taking this drastic step but, unless those afflicted have clear and readily available knowledge about where they should go to ease their suffering, then these efforts may prove futile.    I am suggesting that we need to take positive steps towards becoming more visible in our approach, so that those who are contemplating this unfortunate means of solving their emotional problems can be aware of where they can obtain the necessary professional assistance.
I am therefore proposing that we create some campaign which would disseminate this information by way of signs in every community, so as to point those afflicted with depression and suicidal tendencies to the people and places where they could readily access the needed emotional and/or spiritual help.  I daresay that this may entail a fair amount of resources, but it must be obvious that the budding lives we are losing so frequently must make it exceedingly worthwhile.
