Reigning female National Time Trial and Road Race queen, KU based Claire Fraser-Green ended a creditable 9th overall
at the Caribbean Elite Cycling Championships Time Trials yesterday in Puerto Rico.
Fraser-Green completed the 22.3 km course in 38 Minutes 55.400 Seconds, the event was won by Kathryn Bertine of St. Kitts and Nevis in 31 Minutes 49.300 Seconds with Tamico Butler of Antigua & Barbuda second (32m 30.000s) and Nichole Mitchell of Bermuda, third.
In the men’s segment of the Time Trials, Raynauth Jeffrey ended 5th with Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams ending 8th. Williams’ performance has been described exceptional since he only got to the team hotel at around 03:00hrs yesterday and the race commenced six hours later.
Jeffrey’s performance has also been described as outstanding. Like the junior riders one week ago at the 9th Junior Caribbean Championships held in Suriname, the local riders competed with their road bikes as compared to the other top performers who are equipped with specialized Time Trial machines.
All the riders will be in action today in the road race, national Road Race king Geron Williams and Alonzo Greaves will join Marlon Williams and Jeffrey as they seek to end in the top three. Fraser-Green will also be seeking to claim a top podium spot today in the female race.
Cyclists from the following countries are competing; Jamaica, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Marteen, St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. (F. Wilson)
