…But CS&TC continues countrywide racewalking drive
There has been heightened activity as the executives of the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club continue to press on with their agenda of preparing local race walkers for possible participation in the 2016 Brazil Olympics and coordinator, Jennifer Major, said that despite the many challenges faced by administrators, the recently planned events were successful.
Ms Major was speaking at a session to review the itinerary during the month of September and lamented the paucity of adequate sponsorship to address the planned programmes. She said that the CS&TC had planned outreach sessions countrywide supported by a race walk camp, held for two weeks in August.
Ms Major said that participants were taught the basic aspects of the sport inclusive of the rules. They were also briefed on nutrition, environmental issues and the tourist sector. She said that she was pleased by the high level of interest demonstrated by participants while stressing on the abundance of young talent in the regions. “These talents could be nurtured but there is a grave need for adequate sponsorship,” Ms Major stressed.
Notwithstanding, the CS&TC coordinator admitted that there has been some measure of consistency from several sponsors and she feel somewhat obligated to those corporate citizens/organizations. These include Public Service Minister, Jennifer Westford, Managing Director of Modern Optical Services, Dr Jose DaSilva, Minister of Local Government, Norman Whittaker, Hand in Hand Insurance, Nigel’s Supermarket, Humprey’s Bakery, Raymicton Solutions and Antonio Szala and Brazilian Mining and Associates
