Cyclists in Berbice will have a good opportunity to renew rivalry Sunday when the Flying Ace Cycle Club stages the inaugural ‘Home line Furnishing’ 50-mile cycle road race.
The event is only for Berbicians and is open to cyclists in both regions five and six.
The race, which was scheduled to be a part of the Rose Hall Town 44th anniversary celebrations, was pushed back by the sponsor.
The event could not have come at a better time as it will give riders in the Ancient County a good opportunity to test their mettle just before the staging of the National Five Stage cycle road race the following week.
Most of the riders are expected to come from the FACC, the Trojan Cycle Club and the Corskel cycle clubs in Berbice.
The event pedals off from in front of the Home line Furnishing Store in Rose Hall Town at 10:00hrs and proceed to the Number 62 Police Out-post before returning to its point of origin.
The race will be staged in different categories with prizes and other incentives being given to the outstanding performers.
The first six finishers and the first three juniors to complete the distance will be rewarded.
The top three female cyclists will also be rewarded; however they will race from Adventure to the finish line.
A special BMX race from Tain Berbice Campus to the finishing line is also on the cards and will see the first three to cross the finishing line getting rewards. Eight sprint point prizes are also up for grabs.
The event was recently launched at a simple ceremony held at the Home line Furnishing building at Rose Hall Town. Speaking at the ceremony manager, Fareena Hamid stated that the race is being sponsored by the business entity to observe its 25th anniversary in business and also its third year of doing business in the town.
She stated that the activity is one way of giving back to the community in which they operate. The company, she said, wants to show the people of Rose Hall Town that they appreciate the support they received over the years they have been in the town.
The event has been organized by Coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club Randolph. (Samuel) Whyte)
