Last weekend at the President’s College courts, 16-year-old Ladies Champion Nicola Ramdyhan made light work of the promising 12-year- old Kalyca Fraser defeating her 6-0, 6-1 to be crowned the Bakewell Junior Girls Champion.
The remaining finals of the competition are fixed for this weekend leading up to the closing ceremony, which will take place at 4:30pm at the National Racquet Centre.
In other results from matches played last weekend, Sarah Klautky def. Jeremiah Kalekyezi 6-1 and Adesh Khayyam def. Vadeanand Resaul 6-2 in the Medley U10 semifinals to secure their places in the finals.
Yesterday, the Boys Under 14 Final was scheduled between talented 12-year-old Heimraj Resaul and Jordan Beaton at the GBTI Recreational Centre.
Today, the Medley U10 final will be played between Sarah Klautky and Adesh Khayyam and the Boys U18 final will be played between Keenan Persaud and Jordan Beaton. These two matches will start concurrently at the National Racquet Centre at 3:00pm.
Meanwhile, for the first time last Saturday since its construction in 2012, a small gathering of students of the President’s College were able to witness competitive exhibition matches played by members of the National Squad on the court there. As a tribute to the late CEO Naeem Nasir, the GTA engaged the Executives of Bakewell and President’s College to arrange for tournament matches to be played at the school during the tournament.
The GTA hopes once again that the school will be able to adopt tennis as one of its primary recreational sports through teachers who are willing to make progress with the sport as part of PE classes.
