Khemraj Pooranmall continued his dominance on the draughts board when he outplayed a team of
competent players, amassed 20 points and reclaimed the title when the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) staged the Annual National ‘A’ Class Draughts Championship at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue Sunday October 21.
The win ensured that Pooranmall retained the coveted accolade and his unblemished record of 5 victories in as many tournaments for the year, while former National champion, Jairam, secured 14 points to occupy the second place slot; Tyrone David amassed 13 points to close off the podium spots. For their efforts Pooranmall and Jairam were awarded the two trophies sponsored by the Berbice Bridge Inc, while David received a trophy donated by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Both Pooranmall and Jairam, with solid international experience, started as firm favourites and did not disappoint. P&P Insurance Brokers has sponsored the first place prize. Several other players vied for the coveted crown including Steve Bacchus and Mark Braithwaite.
