In a private e-mail to the AFC of which Raphael Trotman was a recipient, I stated that if I was to campaign for the AFC in another general election, I would not want to be on the same platform with Trotman. I will be campaigning for the AFC in 2015 and wild horses cannot hold me back but I would prefer not to share the same pulpit with Trotman.
Of course it has nothing to do with the mud the PPP has thrown in his face. It has to do with my intense chagrin at the transformation of Raphael Trotman after he became Speaker of the House. At an internal meeting of the AFC, he told the young cadres that they must now understand that he has to be neutral in his politics.
He fought the 2011 campaign against PPP dictatorship. His last words at the AFC’s final rally on Saturday night, November 26, 2011 at the Parade Ground were, “The war must come to an end.” He meant the political and ethnic battles that have destroyed Guyana. But after the election, he chose to be neutral. How can the war end when a top notch opposition politician that people admired and voted for has become neutral?
Trotman must be going through some intense depression bouts after what Gail Teixeira did to him two days ago. Ms. Teixeira must have published perhaps the longest letter Kaieteur News has ever printed. I must know; I have been with this newspaper since it started.
In that two page propagandistic epistle, Ms. Teixeira waded into Trotman and using subtle words conveyed the meaning that Trotman’s accuser of the sexual charge has credibility. Of course in fairness to Trotman, Teixeira wouldn’t recognize credibility even if it appears like Godzilla in her bedroom. None of the Jagans underlings, collectively or as individuals, ever had credibility.
Trotman must be hurting badly at what Teixeira did to him after the magical words he used to describe the wonderful image of Teixeira. Here is Raphael Trotman’s praise of Teixeira. I am quoting from my column, “Trotman’s Bar: Dichotomizing the human character,” October 18, 2012. Speaker Trotman shouted out, “She raises the standards of parliamentary behaviour; she raises the bar.”
In that article I asked Trotman which bar; Cadbury’s chocolate or Palmolive soap? He didn’t reply. I once saw Teixeira in the same supermarket I was in and she bought Cadbury’s chocolate bar and Irish Spring soap (both are non-Caribbean products). So it had to be those bars that Trotman had in mind. There is no other bar Teixeira can raise in my opinion.
I have been in politics my whole life and I say in all honesty, Ms. Teixeira is one of the most dangerous and undemocratic political personalities this country has produced. I personally find Ms. Teixeira highly unacceptable. A friend told me in 2013 that Trotman said to a group of people at a cocktail function that Priya Manickchand was the parliamentarian of the future.
Seriously, something is deeply troubling about Raphael Trotman. Unless it was Shaun Samaroo who influenced Trotman to say that, since Samaroo wrote that Guyana’s future rest in the hands of Ministers Frank Anthony and Priya Manickchand.
Raphael Trotman had more praise for the people who have now thrown mud on him.
I quote again from one of my columns; “The inscrutable language of Raphael Trotman,” June 26, 2012. This is what Trotman had to say of the PPP; “Despite their rhetoric and what’s happening in the public domain, there are good thoughts and views being expressed… we are not getting a sense that government is withdrawing necessarily…”
The man who said this has not been able since then to provide the nation with one good thought of any member of the PPP’s leadership and any member of the Cabinet. Ironically, the PPP has demonstrated its good thoughts by trying to destroy the life of Raphael Trotman. I was looking with disbelief when I saw Trotman at the press conference of the AFC defending his accusation of PPP’s nastiness towards him.
Isn’t this a contradiction? If he has to be neutral as Speaker (which is what he told AFC members in early 2012) then what was he doing at a party press conference. I hope you overcome the PPP’s dirty war against you Mr. Trotman. Maybe we can campaign together next year.
