The 2nd Annual Berbice Cup Football KO Tournament begins with a double-header on Saturday at the Monedderlust FC ground, Number 5 Village, West Coast Berbice. After an expected colourful march-past of the eight teams at 16:00hrs. The opening match slated for 18:00hrs, will kick-off with Rosignol United confronting Cougars FC and in the feature game to follow, hosts and Cup holders’ Monedderlust tackle Bakewell Buxton Stars.
This year’s competition includes the top four teams from Berbice and East Coast as they battle over three weeks for $1million and other individual prizes.
The eight games will be played every Saturday evening with double-headers between this Saturday and 25th at the impressive Monedderlust Community ground, now considered the Ancient County’s top football venue.
The other first round fixtures will be contested on October 11th when Golden Grove’s Golden Stars meet Ann’s Grove in the first game at 18:00hrs following Victoria Kings against New Amsterdam United.
The semi-finals take place on October 18th with the winners of the first two games meeting in the first game at 18:00hrs to be followed with a clash of the winners from the other two matches. The 3rd place play-off and grand finale will be staged on October 25th.
The winning team will cash-in on $400,000, the runners-up earn $300,000, while the 3rd place collect $200,000 and the 4th placed side, $100,000. In addition, there will be individual prizes for: The Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Top Goal-scorer and the Tournament’s MVP.
The Starlite Generation in collaboration with the Monedderlust FC is once again organizing and staging the Tournament which will showcase the best football talents of Berbice and East Coast. To date only K&S Depot of West Coast Berbice has made a contribution towards this year’s competition.
