‘I survived under tougher times and tougher leaders in the PNC than Granger and Felix, Harmon and this bunch of Johnny come lately.”
By Abena Rockcliffe
General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Clement Rohee, said yesterday, that he will not be bothered by
moves made by the Opposition, particularly A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), because he feels that his political status surpasses that of most of the “Johnny just comes” in APNU.
Rohee was at the time responding to a question to ascertain whether the General Secretary would have allowed the publicized position of the Opposition—with regards to him being an astute political leader—to influence his acceptance of a nomination to be PPP presidential candidate.
Just recently, at an APNU press conference, Member of Parliament and former Commissioner of Police, Winston Felix, described Rohee as a “blunderer.”
Felix told that media that Rohee is a well known blunderer and that his latest analysis of the opposition which brought him to the conclusion that it is “divided” is yet another blunder added to the list of many blunders Rohee has made in the past.
In 2012 the Parliamentary Opposition voted in favour of a No-Confidence Motion against Rohee with the contention that he is unfit to be Minister of Home Affairs. That Motion, taken to the National Assembly by APNU, was unsuccessful after Speaker of the National Assembly; Raphael Trotman ruled that the House cannot express no-confidence in a government Minister but only in a government.
Even though that Motion died, APNU had on many other occasions called for Rohee’s removal. Time and time again the opposition insisted said that Rohee has no leadership qualities.
But in response to the question as to whether he would allow these positions to influence his acceptance of nomination for
Presidential candidate, Rohee said that it would take much more than that to faze him.
The General Secretary said, “Mr. Felix would be the last man on earth for me to pay attention to; the man is a Johnny come lately in politics. There is nothing Felix can teach me about politics. I have been in it too long I suffered in politics and grew in politics.”
“I would not bat an eye lid on anything that Felix says. He should look himself in the mirror when he is talking about blunders. I also noted that he said that his party is taking what I said seriously (Rohee said that that he would show Granger who is too weak to fight should protests for the holding of Local Government Election get out of line.) Well I am happy for that. I am very happy for that… he better had (take it serious).”
Asked whether the no-confidence Motion would be a consideration, Rohee said that the Motion was merely a political ploy.
He said, “I have no time in my political life for the likes of (APNU leader, David) Granger or Felix. I survived under tougher times and tougher leaders in the PNC then Granger and Felix and Harmon and this bunch of Johnny come lately.”
