Dear Mr Editor,
The Administration and Administrators of football really amaze me daily how they go about chores. The Honorable President of the GFF Mr Christopher Matthias was at it again. Trying to mislead and deceive some fairly intelligent young men and women who are referred to as Referees. The occasion was at the closing of the FIFA RAP training seminar held at the Ministry of Culture Youth & Sport Resource Center, Woolford Avenue during the period 10th to 14th September 2014.
Mr Matthias announced to the Referees in front of the FIFA Instructors and other GFF Staff that the GFF is in receipt of funds from Digicel that was paid in 3 parts, Lie #1. Digicel paid in the money in 2 parts.
He said that they are waiting for Mr Roy Mc Arthur to return to Guyana so he can prepare the breakdown of the referees who worked so that payment could be made, Lie #2. The final was played on 3rd August 2014 and McArthur prepared the documents since then and handed it into the GFF.
To crown it off all of the Referees he addressed are aware of the facts because they were informed by Mr McArthur and the Digicel Representatives that GFF got all the money before the final was played. The GFF is in receipt of the information reference who are to be paid what. After the gathering the referees started gossiping amongst themselves saying that they now believe what is being peddled around about the GFF President’s continuous lies and deceit.
Anyhow, Mr McArthur returned approximately 2 weeks ago and yet the referees have not received their funds. Can Mr President defend that, the Referees are waiting with much eagerness.
Quite recently the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs held its Heritage Football Tournament and the GFF received payment for the referees before the actual event, can someone say if the referees have received their payment as yet? The finals were played more than 1 week now.
If Mr Matthias knows that he can’t run the GFF and manage the people’s money professionally he should do the most decent thing and that is to demit office gracefully and keep some of his dignity. Everywhere you go is the same cry; what is going on with football in Guyana. It is evident that it is getting worse and yet this man has the temerity to go on National Television, smiling and telling the world that football is improving in Guyana and the administration is putting things in place to make it better.
Come on man, get real. I think this President is suffering from some form of ism. He needs help.
Raul Thorn.
