Dear Editor,
I am not in the habit of responding to ghost writers but I make an exception herein as everyone is aware that Mr. Henry Farnum seems to be another one of someone’s inventions.
Mr. Sharma Solomon has also quite competently replied to “Mr. Farnum” clarifying his position which I fully support.
Mr. Farnum (if he exists) contended in a letter to the media, on the 24th Sept 2014, that “Mr. Sharma Solomon should not be involved in Linden Cricket” and that “Linden is an independent cricket entity”. He further insinuated that a “Mr. Fredericks” and company is a legitimate cricket entity while Mr. Lancelot Easton’s committee is not.
I must firstly state that the body purportedly led by Fredericks is also an invention of some and Linden has never been an Association in Demerara: The DCB consists of four associations, namely, GCA, WDCA, ECCB and EBDCA. Mackenzie Sports Club has always been a part of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association.
If and when the Cricket Bill becomes Law, the new DCB (Government of Guyana) Constitution, inserted into the Bill will then give Upper Demerara association status within the DCB, bringing its membership to five (5).
At that point in time, the only legitimate cricket entity in Linden will gain Association Status. That body is the Upper Demerara Cricket Committee led by Mr. Lancelot Easton, who has been involved in Bayroc and Upper Demerara Cricket for over thirty five years.
I would like to make it pellucidly clear that no fly by night group will be able to run Linden’s cricket so Mr. Fredericks and company would be best served by joining forces with Mr. Easton to develop Linden’s cricket. Anyone passing the Bayroc ground can see development going on and cricket being played. Mr. Sharma Solomon has been doing a great job to unite his people with this facility and I urge him to continue to do so.
The DCB will continue to work with any entity or group that is interested in the game’s development.
Bayroc is about to receive four truckloads of special clay to rebuild their wicket and a quantity of cricket gears to promote their 10 teams competition. The only ground suitable for cricket in Linden currently is Bayroc and we intend to help them develop.
We are preparing Linden to develop a structure so that when the status of Association is achieved they will be on par with the other established DCB members.
Mr. Sanasie and the GCB will carry on creating unity through cricket. The GCB will continue to assist clubs, committees, associations and Counties across the country.
Yours faithfully,
Rajendra Singh,
President
Demerara Cricket Board.
